Roof Update

We were delighted to return in September and find the roof work had all been completed, so the GP room is in full use again!

Some dates to remember…

Board of Management

The two parent reps voted onto the Board on October 25th are Simon Thornton and Joan Callaghan! The final meeting of the present Board is on Tuesday 8th November.

Parents’Association

It was wonderful to see so many parents at the Annual Parents Association AGM and on behalf of the school we would like to take this opportunity to thank the outgoing committee for the terrific work that they did last year. We are delighted that Ken Gibson will be continuing as Chair this year, and we would also like to welcome the new committee and look forward to working with them.

After Schools

All after school activities which include hockey, soccer, athletics, speech and drama, tennis, guitar lessons and singing are up and running. We have played several hockey and soccer matches and all children are doing well. Class numbers are healthy and competitive with the exception of athletics which is quiet this term. Thank you to all parents who have done supervision so far this term.

SOCCER

Congratulations to our soccer squad who have had a very successful league campaign and are league champions. They had to fight very hard but played very competitively to beat
Rathmichael (5-2), KPS (2-0), Burrow NS (4-2) and local school St Anthony's (4-2).
A big 'Thank you' to our coach, Collie, and to Gabriel who refereed our games!
A very big 'Thank you' also to our parents for their support.
And we still have the cup to come!

OLYMPIC QUALIFYING TOURNAMENT

Ireland hosted a Men's Olympic Qualifying Hockey Tournament in UCD (10th - 18th March).
Congratulations to Adam Campion, Adam Cassidy, Stuart Jackson, Jack Kennedy, Marc Lynch, Conor Plower and Rory Wilson who were chosen as 'ball boys' for the Malaysia v Ukraine game on Tuesday 13th March and the Chile v Ukraine game on Sunday 18th March.
The DNS boys did a great job and seemed to enjoy the experience at this world event.
Sadly the Irish team missed qualification by losing to Korea (ranked 6th in the world) in the last two seconds of the final!

Swimming
Kildare Place Schools Invitational Swimming Gala

DNS competed in the above competition with 12 swimmers recently. They were ably looked after by Peta Scott and Lesley Blair to whom we are very grateful.
Reports from the gala were that Delgany was the 3rd placed school overall, which was quite an achievement given that some schools had 35+ swimmers!
They had several individual medals as well as relay medals.
Congratulations to the team for their superb effort and also for their exemplary behaviour on the day. They did Delgany National School proud!

Squad: Ellie, Millie, Kate, Beth, Karen, David, Harry, Maya, Jamie, Aoibhe and Charlotte.

Interactive Whiteboards

All classrooms in Delgany NS now have interactive whiteboards. Training is ongoing, and these boards will be a wonderful addition to the educational provision in our school.

Car Park

Many people seem to be ignoring the car park guidelines, especially at the 1:10 p.m. pick up. Please remember that parents may NEVER park across the emergency exit/bus lane and that no children or parents may use the Staff Only gate. Parents may not park length ways behind the staff cars or at the stop and drop. Parents may only park in available spaces in the inner car park.

Practicalities...

Mobile phones must be kept switched off at all times while your child is on the school premises. Phones may only be turned on and off outside of the school building. Phones that cause disruption will be confiscated and may be reclaimed from the principal’s office.

Please! Please! Please try to get to school on time! School opens at 8:30am daily. The time from 8:30-8:50 am is an important part of the school day. Homework is collected, reading is heard, work finished off, friends chatted to and a myriad of other things happen at this time. If your child arrives at 8:50 (or any later)
they are late!!! Being late means they miss out on classwork and cause disruption when they are coming in. Children must be seated by 8:45 am at the very latest. Thank-you.

There is a large quantity of lost property in the basket in the library. If you are missing leisure wear, hats , scarves, fleece jackets etc; please check lost property. PLEASE make sure that all your child’s belongings are clearly named.

May we remind infant parents that it is very important that we know who is collecting their child. Please let their class teacher or the office know of any change to the collection routine.
