ENERGY WORKSHOP
(4th, 5th & 6th Classes)
January 2012
On Thursday 12th January a man called Ben came to Delgany National School to talk to the Senior Classes about 'energy'. He was French.
We pedalled a bicycle to produce enough energy to light a bulb, lighting up the LED bulb used less energy! We created energy to turn the blades on the blender.
Using lots of pedal power we were able to grate a carrot and make a smoothie!
The session was interesting and we feel we know a little bit more about 'energy' now!

Fourth Class

Some of our brave local fire fighters paid a visit to 3rd Class.
The children learned lots and had fun!
Ken Gibson (Leprosy Mission) visited the school in January and talked to everyone in Assembl y. He said that leprosy affected the hands, feet and eyes of children in other parts of the world. He used some lollipops to demonstrate how hard it is to do things without the use of fingers, feet and eyesight. Ken thanked DNS for supporting the 'Leprosy Mission'.

Sarah Webb Irish author, writer of popular fiction and children's books and, more importantly, Aunt of Charlie popped in to talk to Fourth Class on Tuesday 7th February.
While she was here Sarah checked out the books the pupils had written for the 'Write a Book' project. She was very impressed with the standard.
'Irish dogs for the disabled' was our charity for March and we were delighted to welcome cute puppy Farah to DNS. Everyone would have happily kept her, especially Mr Howard who very reluctantly gave her back!
The charity aims to assist people with disabilities to enjoy a greater independence and a better quality of life and where possible, to help them into education and employment, through the provision of specially trained Assistance Dogs.
