'Fields of Life'
Each month, we have a €2 day in aid of a particular charity. Before the Summer, this was in aid of Fields of Life www.fieldsoflife.com an Irish educational charity which supports schools in East Africa.
During the Summer, David Reynolds (husband of Mrs Reynolds) was in Uganda helping to run a Summer Camp for Fields of Life pupils who are leaving school this year. On October 21, David came to Assembly and shared his experiences with the whole school. This gave us all a great insight into the difference our €2 can make to people's lives.
Don Conroy visits DNS!
Don Conroy the Irish children's author, artist, conservationist and television personality visited Delgany National School on 10th November 2011.
A genuinely nice man, 'Uncle Don' as he is affectionately known, told stories and did some drawings for the children. Don has written over 40 books for children and young adults including 'The owl who couldn't give a hoot', 'Elephant at the door' and 'On silent wings'.
He left the children inspired and enthused about writing and illustrating!

'Movember'
Four well-known faces around the school were altered somewhat for the month of 'Movember'. Their aim was to raise funds and to raise awareness around the issue of men's health. Mr Howard, Mr Lawson, Frank and Johnny Baker itched, scratched, groomed and preened their way through the month raising almost four hundred euro for this very worthy cause!
Well done gentlemen!
International Student Visit
Chelsea Baker is a student teacher from America. She is part of the International Student Teaching Program at Appalachian State University. She lives in Claremont, North Carolina and will soon have her teaching degree in Secondary Social Studies.
Chelsea spent five weeks at Delgany National School from November through to December.

Felting Workshop
On Wednesday 21st December Nessa Mc Cormack (Arann's Mum) demonstrated the art of felting to the lucky students in Fourth class. She brought some small samples of fabulous pieces both she and Arann had produced. Nessa was incredibly organised, easy to listen to and her instructions were very clear and easy to follow while allowing the students the freedom to be creative. Fourth class pupils had a really great time and responded very well.
Check out the slideshow and watch out for some of their 'masterpieces' around the school!
Well done Ms Fair for organising this activity!
